The Sunday Stroll: 26 June, 2011

June 26, 2011

Here’s a quite remarkable clip – motorbike ballet from Magny Cours in France…

Alas Rory McIlroy won the US Open – a quality performance from a phenomenal talent. The 22-year-old from Northern Ireland annihilated the field in a record-breaking performance; quite stunning. Here he is as a child protégé chipping balls into a washing machine…

Thierry Henry: footballing legend (not if you’re Irish though). Sent off for violent conduct over in the States. Henry, violent conduct? Surely not. Well yes, albeit somewhat harsh…

Here’s a clip from the Isle of Man TT the other week – a phenomenal save from Dan Kneen. Quite how he didn’t end up on the tarmac (and on his way to hospital) is beyond us…

And just to prove these superhuman bike racers don’t always get away with it, here’s Connor Cummins’ quite frightening 2010 crash… (he’s ok now…)

Wimbledon’s kicked off – unsurprisingly it rained a bit, but at least those on Centre Court got to see some action when the rain fell thanks to the roof; great addition to SW19. The traditional Murray to win bandwagon has been rolling along relatively smoothly, and he did enjoy a rather entertaining point to complete his first-round victory over Daniel Gimeno-Traver…

And here’s Murray entertaining the masses against Ivan Ljubicic in the third round…

Across the grounds there were various goings on. The odd racquet escaping the courts for instance… tut tut Alex Bogomolov Jr…

Naturally a few crowd-entertaining moments, this time from Frenchman Benoît Paire…

And finally, here’s comedian Noel Fielding getting interview by Sonali Shah about a whole host of bizarre tennis-related goings-on, not least Boris Becker’s struggles to determine the long-haired Mr Fielding’s gender…

Fulham’s Europa League campaign gets underway later this week when they host little-known Faroese side NSÍ Runavík at Craven Cottage (tickets just £5 in advance, £10 on the day). Unsurprisingly, you probably have no idea who they are, so if you can’t stomach a full ten minutes of goals from their 2007 title-winning season, then enjoy their crack at the crossbar challenge here…

Ok, we jest. That was their youth team…

(We think…)

Over in MotoGP, after these comments from Jorge Lorenzo on Marco Simoncelli a while back, you’ll never guess what happened? Yep, Simoncelli took Lorenzo out on the first lap. Maybe he’ll be arrested after all…

As ever folks, thanks for reading. All the best, SB
