The Sunday Stroll: 18 September, 2011

September 18, 2011

The US Open men’s title was won by Novak Djokovic after a pulsating encounter with Rafa Nadal. Some truly great tennis was played as Djokovic out-slugged, out-manouevered and out-crafted Nadal to his third slam of what is turning into an all-time great year for Nole. In the words of John McEnroe, Djokovic ‘bewildered Nadal. I’ve never seen Nadal look as if he doesn’t know what to do.’ Here is the moment he claimed the US crown…

And here’s one of the many epic rallies the two shared…

Serena Williams, as graceful as ever…

THIS is why we love Rugby World Cups…

England’s Courtney Lawes was cited and picked up a two-game ban for a reckless knee-drop on Argentina’s Mario Ledesma last weekend. England’s second-row enforcer also put in a big hit (for which he was not punished) on Gonzalo Tiesi, causing the Puma’s centre to be ruled out of the tournament will knee ligament damage. Still, at least he is capable of taking it and not just dishing it out…

Jeff Stelling, Chris Kamara, Phil Thompson & co., eat your hearts out! This is how you react to a goal… [skip to 0:20s though]

Reporter goes fishing. Fergie bites…

Here’s Bournemouth chairman Eddie Mitchell endearing himself to the fans. “Hey you, the lad in the leather jacket – why don’t you pop over the fence and we’ll have a chat…” Genius…

Barcelona’s Víctor Valdés – one of the best goalkeepers in the world. His task: to stand in the net and keep his eyes peeled for the odd occasion that the opposition get the ball within shooting distance. Or he could just face the wrong way…

All 226 of Thierry Henry’s Arsenal goals. Quite brilliant…

From the sublime to the embarrassing, and a moment Artem Gomelko will want to quickly forget…

F1 in Monza last weekend, and guess what? Yep, Vettel won again. The title is his, surely. Not that Vettel’s so certain. Anyways, Schumi was back up to his old tricks, weaving around a defending ‘robustly’ against Lewis Hamilton…

Here’s a classic from Robert Kubica a while back that might have escaped your attention…

We hope the Pole is back racing soon…

Anyways, always one to leave on a high, here’s a quite stunning goal from Mathieu Bodmer for PSG in the Europa League earlier this week. Excellent tekkers, sir…
