The Sunday Stroll: 30 October, 2010

October 30, 2011

Tragedy struck the world of motorsport once more last weekend, with rising MotoGP star Marco Simoncelli killed at the Malaysian Grand Prix. The affable 24-year-old’s funeral was held on Thursday and attended by 10,000 fans as well as family, friends and fellow riders. SuperSic was ‘as fast on a bike and as popular with the fans as his unmistakable hair was crazy,’ so my God how we will miss him. Above is a brilliantly put together and very moving tribute montage to his 2011 achievements, and below is the touching and informative official MotoGP tribute. Ciao, Marco

And for those who like a touch of nostalgia, here’s SuperSic racing MiniMotos against Dovi back in the day…

India completed a 5-0 ODI series whitewash over England in Kolkata on Tuesday, with the tourists collapsing from 129-0 to 176 all out. Quite remarkable. Anyways, it is not like England haven’t collapsed dramatically before, as this 46-ao (yes you read correctly) at the hands of the West Indies several years ago testifies…

F1 hits new circuit India this weekend, although it’s not been without its teething problems. The lack of windows in the commentary boxes being one such example. Oh, and the red flag in Free Practice for the dog on the track. Here’s what happened when Bruno Senna encountered a dog at Istanbul in 2008…

Memories of the amusing Juan Pablo Montoya “oh dear” clip spring to mind…

I wonder if Bernie Ecclestone / Hermann Tilke have considered the following for their latest F1 track design?!? It’s like the Nordschleife of Hot Wheels…

What is happening however is the New Jersey race from 2013. There’s a rough sim of the track below, complete with New York skyline in the background. Could be interesting…

Alas New Zealand won the Rugby World Cup last weekend, beating the French in the final. A real highlight was the haka though, with the French bringing back memories of the ’07 face-up by advancing from an arror formation to meet the challenge laid down before them…

And here’s a quite brilliant Air New Zealand ‘safety video’ featuring Graham Henry and Richie McCaw & co. that somehow escaped our attention…

Manchester City stuck six past United last weekend – a remarkable result for sure. Here’s United shipping six to Southampton a few years ago. They changed from their grey kit to blue and white stripes at half time. Matt le Tissier didn’t notice until fifteen minutes into the second period, bless…

John Terry – never far away from a headline is he? He’s now facing accusations that he racially insulted Anton Ferdinand (see below) when Chelsea travelled – and lost – to QPR last weekend. As Matthew Norman’s brilliantly tongue-in-cheek article suggests, we really don’t deserve JT…

Anyways, to lighten the mood here’s Mick McCarthy jumping out of his skin at, well, nothing. No, seriously – nothing

And karma or no karma, here’s John Terry falling over and allowing Robin van Persie through to score at the weekend…

Wonder if this free-kick brings back memories for David Seaman or Ronaldinho??…

Watch this basketball clip. It’s brilliant. So nonchalant…

Like extreme sports? In HD? You’ll love this…
